Your First Orthodontic Appointment

When you schedule an appointment with an orthodontist you might have many questions or concerns about what you can expect. Rest assured, by choosing an orthodontist like an orthodontist in San Clemente, CA, you can feel peace of mind in knowing that we will take time to listen to your questions and help you to understand their answers. It is our goal to give you the smile of your dreams.

Any good orthodontist knows that first time patients will be slightly nervous. The decision to receive this care is big, and involves a lot of cost. Our orthodontist will walk you through each procedure and help you to feel as comfortable as possible.

Your Orthodontic Consultation

Your care will begin with a consultation. This is a time in which you can ask questions, discuss your concerns, and learn more about the team who will be working on your smile. Your consultation will be followed by an exam, and the orthodontist will help you to explore what options will suit your needs. You will also learn about the treatment, the time it will take to complete, and the cost.

Depending on how the consultation goes, you might also talk about, or do:

  • Your dental history
  • Your medical history
  • An oral exam
  • X-rays of your mouth
  • Financial information and payment plants
  • Individualized treatment plan

Following Your Orthodontic  Consultation

After your consultation, you will be given time to choose how you would like to proceed. If you opt to go ahead with the treatment, you will be asked to schedule your first appointment, or a few appointments, with the orthodontist. Your first appointment will involve being fitted with an appliance or braces – depending on your needs. The appointment may take 1 -3 hours.

Scheduling Your First Appointment

As an orthodontist might explain to you, appointments will need to be scheduled every 4 to ten weeks. They may take 20 to 40 minutes, but this time could take less or more depending on the goals of the orthodontist. If you need to reschedule your appointment, or you are running late, we would appreciate a call beforehand.

A Dental Appointment is Not the Same

It is important to understand that an orthodontist and dentist are not the same. You should see a dentist while you receive orthodontic care. Sometimes both medical professionals will need to coordinate with one another.

Treatment Costs

Some people might have concerns about the costs of treatment. Our orthodontic clinic can discuss with you the payment options that may be available, as well as insurance plans and how to file a claim. Sometimes, we do accept payment plans. Please speak with the orthodontist about this.
